In the early 1970’s the City of Modesto partnered with the Citizens Cultural Center Committee to renovate the vacant McHenry Library and rename it the McHenry Museum where their collections of historic memorabilia and artifacts could be made available for public viewing. In 1972 the McHenry Museum had its official opening.

As the activities of the Citizens Cultural Center Committee became more focused on the preservation of history and historic artifacts a name change seemed to be in order. The organization became the McHenry Museum Society that was incorporated as an independent non-profit organization.

Modesto’s State Theatre has borne witness to a vibrant city of more than 216,000 springing up around it, and the demise and demolition of eight of its fellow movie palaces – The Star, Isis, Dreamland, Auditorium, Richards (which later became the National, Princess and finally The Covell), The Strand, The Lyric (later named The Esquire), The La Loma, and The Modesto, all constructed from the turn of the century to the late ‘20s. Rather than succumbing to the wrecker’s ball, The State experienced a metamorphosis from a movie theater to a performing arts venue and community center.

OWNER AND FOUNDER, JOHN PARLET, began his career in the pizza business with the opening of a simple pizza parlor with a couple of arcade games. With the success of that location, John had an incredible idea: He wanted to create a totally unique experience that combined a made-from-scratch all you can eat buffet with rides, games and attractions! And the kicker... he wanted it all under one roof! So in 1997, John opened the first John's Incredible Pizza Company in Victorville, California with a 16,000 square foot location. This was soon followed by the opening of nine additional locations that grew bigger and even more incredible! With John's commitment to serving "good food with a good attitude", the average John's is now over 50,000 square feet! That's the size of a football field... WOW!

We roll up our sleeves and donate time, money and blood. We learn or teach life-saving skills so our communities can be better prepared when the need arises. We do this every day because the Red Cross is needed - every day.

Since 1953, United Way of Stanislaus County has been at the forefront of efforts to address the most pressing issues in our community, working to find long-term, sustainable solutions.  The core of our Mission is to inspire unity and empower our community, and we accomplish this by leveraging our strong relationships with other nonprofit organizations and government agencies.

Simply put, we were here YESTERDAY, we are here TODAY, and we will be here TOMORROW.

Our store started as a self-serve operation in the barn, based on trust and a reputation for excellent cheese. Customers picked out their favorite cheeses from the refrigerator and left cash on the counter.

Although we have come a long way from the original milk barn, we still make our small batches of handcrafted cheese with the same passion our family did four generations ago. Today we offer several varieties of national award-winning Gouda and other specialties in our expanded full-scale cheese plant in Oakdale where customers can enjoy their cheese, relax and have a picnic under the trees next to the pond.

The American Graffiti Festival & Car Show hosts about 1,000 classic cars (1979 and earlier) from California and throughout the western states.  On Sunday, the show includes over 200 muscle and sports cars from the  local Cars & Coffee group that showcases newer – soon to be classic – and exotic cars.  On top of that, add in about 10,000 spectators, a variety of local bands, food and craft vendors, it’s a great time for the whole family to enjoy.

The American Graffiti Festival & Car Show event is the “granddaddy” of them all, having spawned Graffiti Summer, a month-long calendar of Graffiti-related activities each June in the Modesto area.
